Project 2030: A Progressive Roadmap for America's Future

Introduction

Project 2030 is a comprehensive vision for the future, designed to create a more just, equitable, and sustainable America. This initiative will serve as a blueprint for the next Democratic administration to enact transformative policies that expand economic opportunity, safeguard democracy, combat climate change, and protect the rights of all people.

The Trump Administration’s “Project 2025” will undoubtedly cause lasting harm to the governmental structures and institutions that safeguard and enhance the quality of life for Americans. However, it is not enough for the next Democratic president to merely focus on repairing the damage left by their Republican predecessor. Instead, they must go beyond rebuilding—leveraging every available resource to advance a bold, progressive agenda that the American people have long awaited.

1. Strengthening Democracy and Protecting Voting Rights

  • Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Freedom to Vote Act to secure fair elections and end gerrymandering.

  • Abolish the Electoral College in favor of a national popular vote system.

  • Expand the Supreme Court and implement term limits to restore balance and prevent partisan judicial overreach.

  • Enact campaign finance reform to limit corporate influence in elections.

  • Make Election Day a national holiday and implement automatic voter registration nationwide.

  • Implement a permanent ban on former presidential administration employees from becoming lobbyists to prevent conflicts of interest and undue corporate influence in government.

  • Require all members of Congress and presidential cabinet members to disclose the last five years of their tax returns and make them publicly available online for transparency.

2. Economic Justice and Workers’ Rights

  • Raise the federal minimum wage to $20 per hour and index it to inflation.

  • Implement a wealth tax on billionaires and large corporations to fund social programs.

  • Strengthen labor laws to protect unions, outlaw “right-to-work” laws, and facilitate workplace democracy.

  • Introduce universal basic income (UBI) pilot programs to explore economic security measures.

  • Guarantee paid family leave, paid sick leave, and vacation time for all workers.

3. Universal Healthcare and Public Health

  • Implement Medicare for All, ensuring every American has access to healthcare regardless of income.

  • Expand mental health services and integrate them into primary healthcare settings.

  • Establish a national paid medical leave program.

  • Lower prescription drug costs through government negotiations and price caps.

  • Invest in rural and underserved healthcare infrastructure.

  • Implement mandatory family life and age-appropriate sex education from K-12 in schools to ensure comprehensive public health education.

  • Include dental care and vision in universal healthcare to ensure comprehensive medical coverage for all Americans.

4. Climate Action and Green New Deal Implementation

  • Achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 through aggressive investment in renewable energy.

  • End subsidies for fossil fuel companies and redirect funds toward green technology research and infrastructure.

  • Establish a federal jobs program focused on clean energy, climate resilience, and conservation efforts.

  • Implement a national carbon pricing system with rebates for lower-income households.

  • Strengthen environmental justice initiatives to address pollution in marginalized communities.

5. Education Reform and Student Debt Relief

  • Make public colleges and universities tuition-free for low- and middle-income students.

  • Cancel federal student loan debt and implement interest-free higher education financing.

  • Invest in universal pre-K and expand access to affordable childcare.

  • Increase teacher pay and fully fund public schools, especially in underserved areas.

  • Promote vocational training and apprenticeship programs as alternatives to traditional four-year degrees.

6. Racial, Gender, and LGBTQ+ Justice

  • Pass comprehensive police reform, including a national database of misconduct and an end to qualified immunity.

  • Strengthen the Civil Rights Act to expand protections against discrimination.

  • Guarantee reproductive rights and codify Roe v. Wade into federal law.

  • End family separation and reform ICE to focus on humane enforcement policies.

  • Expand refugee and asylum protections for individuals fleeing violence and climate change.

  • Create a national worker visa program that protects labor rights and prevents exploitation.

  • Support bilingual education and cultural integration programs for immigrants.

8. Technology, Innovation, and Infrastructure

  • Implement nationwide broadband internet access as a public utility.

  • Develop high-speed rail networks and invest in sustainable urban planning.

  • Regulate big tech companies to protect user privacy and prevent monopolies.

  • Support research in artificial intelligence and automation with ethical oversight.

  • Modernize transportation infrastructure to be more resilient and climate-friendly.

9. Internet Access as a Human Right

  • Recognize internet access as a fundamental human right and ensure universal, affordable high-speed broadband for all Americans.

  • Expand federal funding for community broadband networks to promote digital equity.

  • Implement net neutrality regulations to prevent corporate throttling and censorship.

  • Provide subsidies and free public Wi-Fi initiatives for low-income and rural communities.

  • Enhance cybersecurity protections and digital literacy programs to safeguard online rights and access.

10. Criminal Justice Reform and Ending Mass Incarceration

  • Abolish private prisons and reinvest in community-based rehabilitation.

  • Legalize marijuana at the federal level and expunge past convictions.

  • Implement sentencing reform to end mandatory minimums and cash bail.

11. Global Leadership and Peacebuilding

  • Restore diplomatic leadership in global climate initiatives.

  • Reduce military spending and prioritize diplomatic conflict resolution.

  • Strengthen international human rights protections and hold authoritarian regimes accountable.

  • Reform trade policies to prioritize workers’ rights and environmental sustainability.

  • Expand foreign aid programs focused on climate resilience and poverty alleviation.

12. Affordable Housing and Homelessness

  • Expand federal investment in affordable housing projects to address the housing crisis.

  • Implement national rent control policies to prevent price gouging and displacement.

  • Increase funding for Housing First programs that provide stable housing for homeless individuals without preconditions.

  • Strengthen tenant protections, including the right to counsel in eviction cases.

  • Convert vacant and underutilized properties into affordable housing units.

  • Invest in supportive housing with mental health and addiction services to help prevent chronic homelessness.

  • Incentivize cities and states to build mixed-income housing developments to promote economic integration.

Conclusion

Project 2030 is a bold, progressive vision designed to create an inclusive, sustainable, and thriving America. By enacting these policies, the next Democratic administration can ensure that every person—regardless of race, religion, gender, income, sexual orientation, or background—has the opportunity to succeed and thrive. The future of our democracy, economy, and planet depends on bold leadership and transformative action. Let’s build a future that works for everyone.
