Finding Peace in the Midst of Chaos

It’s been four months since my last blog post—not because I haven’t had anything to say, but because the past several months have been incredibly difficult. The Trump Administration has taken direct aim at the work I do in the nonprofit sector. Our budget was slashed by 50%, forcing me to lay off seven members of my team. And with the anticipated elimination of the HOPWA program by the end of 2026, three more layoffs are expected next year—along with the devastating reality that many of our clients could face homelessness.

I’m exhausted.

But that’s not what this post is really about.

God, grant me the serenity...
God, grant me the serenity...

Despite everything—despite the professional challenges I’ve faced over the past seven months, and despite the national and global turmoil—I remain committed to finding, maintaining, and enjoying the peace that God has granted me.

Every morning, I try to begin my day with a sense of gratitude for the blessings I have. I’ve come to realize that I can’t wait for life to be perfect in order to enjoy it. If I do, I might never get the chance. Instead, I have to embrace the good that’s available to me right now, in this very moment.

I’m healthy. My family and friends are healthy. We are employed. And even though there are forces that seek to disturb or even threaten my peace, I am—right now—still in a state of peace. I don’t live in a war-torn country. I’m not at immediate risk of oppression or death. And so, I choose to enjoy life.

This doesn’t mean I’m ignoring the problems around me. I will continue to address them when necessary, but I refuse to let them consume all of my time and energy. I’m going to spend time with the people I love. I’m going to attend parties. I’m going to share meals with wonderful people and celebrate the moments of joy I can find.

None of us are promised tomorrow—so let’s make the most of today.

Peace be with you!
Peace be with you!
